A 36’ centre cockpit 13 tonner, Herb of Grace was one of the very last boats to come out of Hillyards of Littlehampton, designed by David Hillyard and was launched in 1971.
Built for her current owner’s Father, we found her to be in very good condition, but there were several jobs to undertake, like making a significant repair of her stern post and related areas which were not straight forward, given all the forward intersecting points of the boat’s structure.
We also remade her worn tabernacle to properly and safely hold her desk stepped mast. Other works included; scarfing cracked frames with oak laminates, repairs to cabin sides and replacement of some soft hull planking sections.
It was rewarding for us to carry out her very first major refit and repairs since she was first built. Herb of Grace then left us in early March 2016 during a short spell of lovely weather, giving her owners a lovely day out on the water, returning her to Haslar Marina in Portsmouth Harbour.
