Lapwing

A gaff cutter, built on Leigh Bawley lines, Lapwing is a shoal draft with a centre plate.

We have undertaken a number of projects over the years, including the making of a new mast to replace her old one which was found to have quite serious problems unfortunately.

Previously, in 2017 we fitted a new port rubbing strake, carried out some plank repairs to the port quarter, as well as a complete repaint, after a partial recaulking of the topsides.

Most recently, Lapwing came into the shed Summer 2022 for repainting, but we found significant areas of soft planking in her port quarter. This was believed to have been caused by a deck leak down the inboard face of the transom, that first rotted out the fashion piece, then through this, set to do its damage on the planking. As the saying goes, ‘wooden boats rot from the top down, not the bottom up!’ Thankfully, the repair was completed successfully, and we hope will keep out any future ingress of fresh water.

Projects – Boleh

An historic junk yacht, Boleh was constructed in 1949 by Malay Shipwrights, which then came over to England in 1950 to serve as a training vessel.
