A Rouse / Morrison design, Sea Beat was built in 1975, by Fourteen and Merlin Rocket expert, Lawrie Smart.
She has a distinguished provenance and past; winning many events and competitions, including the 50th Anniversary of the Prince of Wales Cup Week in 1976 – where she demonstrated her capabilities across wind ranges and powerful sail plan, with then Ray Rouse helming, and Chris McLaughlin as crew.
More recently, after generously being gifted from her previous owner in Blakeney, Sea Beat was transported down to West Sussex to be re-united with her original crew member from the 1970’s, namely Chris McLaughlin.
Chris then asked Tim Gilmore to carry out an extensive refit for Sea Beat, including: modifications, re-veneering of plywood sections, as well as all paint and brightwork tasks.
“Fourteens are Forever” – Sea Beat is now ready for the next 50 years, with Chris and his son intending to sail her in Chichester Harbour (Autumn 2023).
